Now, he had to be exhausted and ready to relax with me, right? Not even close! He was insisting that I join him. I am not always a thrill seeker, I will go on any ride to even out the numbers or I will sit one out when one of my children are too scared. I was happy to sit these slides out and continue relaxing. I quickly realized there would be no rest until I appeased him and tried out the slides. I could tell I was still thinking about the kids because I quoted Dr. Seuss in Green Eggs and Ham, telling him,”If you let me be, I will try them. You will see.” I followed him from one slide to the next and must admit, I had a blast!. Aside from all the living creatures we saw while walking around the pools, we thoroughly enjoyed walking through the Dig. This is a maze of underground passageways and tunnels offering a view into the ruins of the lost city of Atlantis including opportunities to explore the myth as well as more amazing marine habitat. One of the highlights of our vacation was our trip to Dolphin Cay, the dolphin interaction and education center. We had the opportunity to get in the water and interact with actual dolphins. Our dolphin, “Eli” was rescued from Marine Life Oceanarium in Gulfport, Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina. ![]() When we were done with the sun each day, we would change and head toward Marina Village, a 65,000 square foot marketplace with outstanding shops (a shopper’s dream), restaurants to appeal to all palates and always live entertainment. Then, of course, we would find ourselves wandering through the casino to complete our day of play. During the trip, I had the opportunity to tour the Reef Atlantis, the newest resort that was getting ready to open soon after our vacation ended. The Reef was built on Paradise Beach. Each beautifully accomodated room has a spectacular view of the water with private balconies overlooking the ocean and white sand. While the rooms were all built with energy efficiency in mind, the opening of the Reef also introduced a new concept in consumer travel call Blue Tourism. Guests of the Reef have an opportunity to interact and support the ocean through both ocean-based experiences as well as conservation programs. We can not wait to return and be part of this unique conservation effort. However, we both voted to make the next visit a family vacation. Our “parent-getaway” was wonderful and romantic, but we actually missed the kids and can’t wait to bring them and explore Paradise Island through their eyes.
