Universal Orlando Resort - Orlando, FL PDF Print E-mail

This month's pick for our family-friendly destination is Universal Orlando's Royal Pacific Resort (www.loewshotels.com). You can read my blog about our Thanksgiving weekend on www.VisitFlorida.com. We spent an amazing pre-Thanksgiving holiday at the resort. They catered to our every need.

We were traveling with friends and their three children. Our five kids, ranging in age from three to nine were constantly entertained and happy. And, happy kids make happy parents!

The Royal Pacific Resort has wonderful amenities for families. The Islands restaurant has a kid zone, where parents can dine while kids run around. Why doesn't every restaurant have this? It made our vacation meals enjoyable because we were not stressed out trying to force them to sit once they had finished their mac and cheese.

     Here is a run-down of the property's kid-friendly ideas:

  • Healthy kitchens – The Loews property has banned artificial trans-fats in their kitchens, so you don't have to worry about the kids eating the french fries or desserts at kiddie buffet!

  • They encourage what they call “Pool Crashing,” going to the pools at their two other nearby Orlando properties, Hard Rock Hotel and Portofino Bay Hotel so that the kids have a change of scenery.

  • “Kids Crib” -- a separate dining area for kids, where they can sit on bean bag chairs and hang out and watch television and run around before, during or after meals

  • Entertainers that roam during dinner. Our kids loved “Dr. Cardoo,” a magician who is dressed in South Pacific island attire and does magic and card tricks. They are still joking about what he calls his “mojo.”

  • Game rooms, outdoor pool, ping-pong, shuffleboard and cannon-ball contests daily

  • At the pool's towel kiosk, the staff hands out free swim diapers, sunblock and beach balls in a kit that is sure to come in handy for diaper-duty.

  • Gift shop packed with toys and souvenirs. My boys bought light-up balls attached to a rubber string that they played with the whole trip.

  • Loews Loves Pets Program,” which you can read more about on www.PetTravelPlanet.com if you are bringing the fluffy family member along for the trip!
